While many folks want to do right by our animal neighbors, there are many instances of unnecessary killing and cruelty that go back hundreds of years and continue.
We will look into these disturbing acts and possible solutions for the future.

Animal species are illegally hunted for their parts, particularly for those claiming they have medicinal qualities
What to do: Support anti poaching/trafficking efforts and corporations locally and abroad (see Akashinga on Donate page).

Canned hunts are a practice of trophy hunting a certain species by piling their food source in a pile and releasing multiple individuals to feast while humans kill the animals while they eat.
Hunters falsely justify their practices lead to conservation. Killing does not result in conservation and no communities are being helped. Many trophy hunters target endangered or rare species which only contribute further to the problems. What to do: Support wildlife centers that rehabilitate and release into the wild. Support anti poaching efforts.

Drive hunts
Surplus Animals
Zoochosis/Self-inflicted harm
Small fraction of food, space and environmental enrichment.
Zoos support trophy hunters and even have them on their boards.
Animals are taken from the wild ( trafficked) often traumatically.
Animals can be put in harmful situations either from the public, staff, unnatural environments or other animal individuals that abuse them.
Zoos often do not have resources to fulfill the needs of the animals
What to do: Support rehabilitate and release wildlife centers. Support anti poaching/trafficking organizations.

Wild animals are not meant to be pets
Many are purchased with no idea how to take care of them
Some are mistreated including drugged, abused and confined in very small, dirty enclosures.
There are many who are tortured and abused then post it online for profit.
What to do: Do not support non-rehabilitative and release wildlife social media acounts, block them. Support rehabilitate and release wildlife centers. Support anti poaching/trafficking efforts.

For human benefit but animals tested on are very dissimilar from human anatomy and physiology.

What to do: Reduce or eliminate meat in your diet. Grow your own vegetables and fruits, you can do this indoors. Farmers can convert to produce only produce yields that utilize vertical and sustainable farming techniques. This will reduce waste and pollution. Rewild unused land.

Similar to factory farms many dogs, cats and other animals are kept in small, cages in filthy conditions where animals are abused or neglected for reproduction and sale of offspring. Disease is also frequent in the offspring to these conditions. There are very little restrictions to those who breed animals. What to do: Adopt don't shop. Sign petition to make laws against puppy mills.

The despicable act of fighting animals for profit. Many animals are abused and tortured to get into fighting conditions. Many fights end in one of the animals dying.
What to do: Sign petitions to fight these cruel acts.

Abuse and neglect is a problem. Although there are laws against animal cruelty the punishments are light and not accountable. Many attain animals but do not know how to care or behave around them. What to do: Sign and start petitions for harsher penalties for abusers. If you witness actual abuse, report it to rescue group. Heavily screen those who attain animals. Spay and neuter.

The idea that animal torture and killing has made its way online and has a following is disturbing. Animal torture of kittens, puppies, pets, farm animals and more are being shared online for views and profit. There are most likely multiple reasons for this behavior including growing up around violence, lack of empathy, narcissistic ego and more. There are established links between animal cruelty to human violence and domestic abuse.
What to do: Investigate and arrest all guilty members. Remove animal cruelty content from online platforms. Support laws for greater punishment for animal abuse and/or to recognize animals as sentient beings, not property.
Various governing bodies have suggested wildlife culls and like events to help manage wildlife populations to reduce the risk of transmittable diseases, encroachment on human populated areas and even cited tradition in some cases. These notions have been criticized as overly cruel, suggesting relocating and sterilization are more successful strategies. Many factors need to be considered such as the natural predators of some of these species have been hunted to endangered levels or worse, main food sources has been eliminated forcing populations to concentrate in one area also the expansion of agriculture and development will continue to drive wildlife to a increasingly huge imbalance. We need to be voices on behalf of protecting wildlife as we have lost over 85% due to current practices.
